Unfiltered: Body Image Workshop

18th October, Glenasmole Community Centre

Is this summer going to end the way it started for you? Are you thinking about changing your body or accepting it as it is? Many of us get stuck in the uncertainty and exhaustion that comes from overthinking our bodies. The pressure to conform to an “ideal” can create feelings of shame, making it seem like the only way forward is to change ourselves.

If you’ve chosen to improve your relationship with your body, you might still find yourself slipping back into diet culture thoughts. This isn’t a personal failing—it’s how the system is designed, making it hard to break free. Body image isn’t something you can fix once and for all; it’s a continuous journey with ups and downs.

Why this workshop is different

Body Image Workshop

Many body image workshops only scratch the surface, offering affirmations and advice to “love yourself” without addressing the behaviour change needed to overcome the challenges, nor the social pressures, and cultural conditioning that contribute to these issues.

Mainstream wellness often exacerbates issues by neglecting key factors like neurodivergence, healthcare discrimination, and ableism, while failing to address the lack of visibility for many. Body image work that ignores these oppressions does harm.

This body image workshop is different. Over four hours, we’ll unpack:

  • Where body shame really comes from — and why it’s not your fault
  • The diet culture patterns that keep pulling you back in
  • Practical tools for behaviour change that actually stick
  • The social and cultural forces working against your body image, including ableism, healthcare discrimination, and the lack of representation for neurodivergent and marginalised bodies
  • How to keep moving forward on the hard days, not just the good ones

Why hasn’t mainstream ‘ body positivity ‘ worked?

You’ve likely come across body positivity content online, but why doesn’t it seem to make a difference?

Much of the body image and self-love material focuses on a narrow definition of beauty, often portraying only thin and able-bodied individuals. This approach can leave many feeling excluded. Although body positivity initially emerged from liberation movements, the messages surrounding “wellness” often disguise diet culture, even within the body positivity space.

This body image workshop doesn’t work that way. We name what’s actually going on — the behaviour change, social, and cultural roots of body image struggles — instead of offering another version of “just love yourself.”

What’s included?

  • Discussion on body image, learning and practical body image skills
  • Lunch
  • Yoga

Meet your hosts

Hi, we’re Laura and Maggie. We know this work isn’t easy — because we’ve done it ourselves, and we do it every day. We’re not here to hand you a quick fix or a five-step plan to “finally” love your body. We’re here to walk alongside you, honestly, for as long as it takes.

Who is this workshop for?

This body image workshop is for anyone who is ready and in the right headspace to do this work. Whether you’re just starting to question diet culture or you’ve been doing “the work” for years and keep arriving back at square one.

It’s especially for anyone who’s felt let down by mainstream wellness spaces that weren’t built with them in mind — neurodivergent folks, people navigating discrimination in healthcare, disabled people, and anyone who rarely sees their body represented in this conversation at all.

This isn’t about arriving at self-love by the end of the day. It’s about giving you the understanding, tools, and support to keep going after you leave.

The Dublin mountains make a beautiful setting for the workshop
